I would like to welcome you to my internet abode. Here I save old posts from my time on the Garage Politics Podcast and new bits of commentary and views as we move forward. For any of you that might not already be familiar with me I will attempt to acquaint you with who I am and what I believe.

This is the original Garage Politics lineup. From left to right we’ve got “Guitar” Don, “Buzz” Rankin, “The Common Patriot” (me), and Jack. This picture was taken on 20th December 2008 when the show was only about ten weeks old. It was in our makeshift studio in my garage in South Carolina. Now to give credit where it is due, the entire process began when my wife and I moved into the neighborhood and she met Don’s wife while she was out walking. When she talked to Don she told him to come over and see me since I did not have a habit of roaming around looking for new friends.
Don strolled over to the garage and found me sitting there reading a book, smoking a cigarette, and drinking coffee. The conversation began and as often happens with me, the discussion migrated to politics. That’s the point where I normally scare people off, I’m not afraid to tell it like it is and be honest about what I believe. Much to my surprise, however, Don enjoyed the discussion and began peppering me with questions about history and politics. Turns out that while it hadn’t been something he was real big about, he loved talking about it.
Unbeknownst to me, Don was a professional musician and he told me that I had a voice for radio and should start a radio show about politics. It was all Don’s fault. My brother lived two houses down and the next thing you know the musician, the political nerd and the funny man were huddled around a laptop in my garage with all three of us speaking into the laptop’s onboard microphone. Garage Politics was born along with the persona of “The Common Patriot”.
You can learn more about our radio journey over at the Garage Politics website via the link in the menu. There you can find info on our show and the cast. You can also find all of our skits, songs and show episodes back to the very first one in October of 2008. We had a great time.
While the name officially became public with the creation of the show, the truth is that I was already The Common Patriot for many years before the podcast. I was a Reagan republican, a Rush Limbaugh devotee from 1988 until his untimely passing and a young man that grew up fascinated with history, America, and all that I could learn about our world. There will be more information as we move forward, but that should suffice for now.
Just know that I am a Christian first, husband, father, son, friend, patriot next, and political pundit way down at the bottom. You may as well know right up front that my view is that the thing we need most in this nation, now and always, is Jesus Christ. Not as a political or municipal mandate, but as a personal revival. Each and every one of us needs to govern our own passions with faith in God, moral guidance, and self-control. Our personal integrity should be something that is not in question. I was raised to believe that the most important thing you have to give as an man is your word. If you don’t have integrity and people can’t trust your word then society is on a short path to destruction. We’ve got too many people in government and society in general that simply cannot be trusted. We cannot take them at their word.
We’re not failing because we don’t have the right politicians running the government. We are a nation that is failing because we don’t have the right savior in our hearts and we are focusing on all of the wrong things in our lives every day. It’s more important to our society to have no restraints on our free time than it is to not kill babies. It’s more important to our society to fully explore hedonism in all of it’s perverted facets than it is to build a strong nation for ourselves and our posterity.
Bottom line…
We simply don’t care. Well, you’ll find here that I do along with the millions of other common patriots that spread across our coastal regions, our mountain homes, our fruited plains, and wooded domains. We’re everywhere and I think there is a new movement afoot that is rising to face off once more against the socialists, the communists, the Islamists, and all of the America haters that have begun to rise to prominence on the backs of the foolhardy, the uniformed, and the downright ignorant.
